1.   Introduction

Today leadership and competitive advantage is playing crucial role for organizations. In an organization leadership is necessary for achieving a common task and it also the social influence of a person to support and aid people for working together. Leadership is nothing but organizing people for reaching to the common goal. Today organization use various theories of leadership for achieving better success like- traits, vision, values, behaviour, power, situational interaction and so on (Polonsky, M. J., and Waller, D. S., 2004). Successful leadership is driven the competitive advantage for the overall organizations that improve the organization attributes.

British Petroleum (BP plc) is the multinational company that deals with oil, gas in all over the world. BP headquarter is formed in London, England. In market capitalization it is the sixth-largest company of energy (Polonsky, M. J., and Waller, D. S., 2004). In 2012, on the basis of production BP is the sixth largest company on oil and gas (Helman and Christopher, 2013). It is operated all of the area of oil and gas like –production, power generation, distribution, refine and so on. In 80 countries they operate their business and have the largest division in America (Helman and Christopher, 2013).

Recently BP faces many dynamic changes in case of global order. It also creates the disruption and dislocation (Remo, 2009). For this reason they are facing many crises in corporation. The global environmental crisis is impact on the BP (Friedman, 2008). Good leadership ability can manage this problem and only leadership can prepare a large scale for manage this crisis (Roach and John, 2006). A corporate leader can manage the crisis and the complex situation in the existence situation. In this study we highlight that how much important leadership for the British petroleum for handling this crisis moment.

1.1 Rationale of study

The BP is suffering from a very tropical situation for global market change of oil and gas. The global crisis is highly impact on the business (Roach and John, 2006). Only good leading capability is helping them to copy with this problem. For this reason this research is very helpful for the British Petroliam because by this research they are understand about the importance of the leadership, in which sectors they should more concentrate for leadership and so on (Polonsky, M. J., and Waller, D. S., 2004). For influencing and leading the people for achieving the targeted objective is an important task of the leader in the business organization (Leadership, 2014). Competition is everywhere in business it is so acute one company is trying to gain its competitive advantage over the rival.

1.2 Research Aim

The aim of this research is to identify the importance of the leadership in an organization (British Petroleum) and how can it impact of the competitive advantage of the British Petroleum.

1.3 Research Objectives

The main objectives of this research is given below-
